Obesity; It is a disease that is seen as an epidemic all over the world and can cause life-threatening problems. Therefore, it needs to be closely monitored and treated.
Many factors can play an important role in obesity, obesity does not develop due to a single cause. Therefore, obesity should be treated with a multidisciplinary approach, attended by clinicians from many departments. Patients are assessed depending on, if there are underlying diseases, eating habits, and the presence of a psychological disorder that encourages eating or any possible hormonal balance disorders. In our Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Center, we adopt this understanding and strive to provide the best, quality and result-oriented service to our patients.
How many types of Obesity Surgeries are used Frequently?
Gastric sleeve surgery
This surgery, aims to reduce the stomach volume and prevent the person from overeating. Normally, 1500-2000 ml stomach volume is reduced to 50-100 ml by tube stomach surgery. It is observed that approximately 60% of the unwanted weight is lost within 1-2 years following sleeve gastrectomy.
The most common obesity surgery in our country is tube stomach surgery. This surgery, which is performed with a closed method (laparoscopy) by opening 4-5 holes, is easier for the surgeon than the other surgery.
Gastric bypass surgery
In gastric by-pass surgery, not only the stomach is reduced. At the same time, the space required for re-absorption from the intestines is reduced, preventing substances such as sugar and fat from entering the body.
Gastric bypass is frequently preferred in the United States. If diabetes is at the forefront in obesity, people benefit more from such surgeries.
