EOS (3D Skeletal System Imaging)

EOS (3D Skeletal System Imaging)

Why EOS?

In conventional X-ray imaging, especially when the patient is in a lying position, the true values of the spinal curvature cannot be determined exactly. However, with EOS, the correct proportions can be determined and the whole body can be viewed at once. Another feature of the EOS device is that it helps to reduce the radiation dose that pediatric patients are exposed to in repeated X-ray imaging. Thus, 3D imaging of the entire spine from the head to the feet is provided with 90% less radiation compared to conventional x-ray devices.

Stands out in the diagnosis of scoliosis

In scoliosis disease, which is expressed as the curvature that can be seen in the back and waist regions of the spine, the vertebrae can move left and right, although they should be in a straight line; it can rotate around its own axis. The diagnosis of the disease, which occurs mostly in adolescence, is made with an x-ray showing the entire spine in the foot and a physical examination. The angle of the curvature of the spine is measured with the data obtained from the imaging. This is used in the planning of treatment. X-ray imaging is frequently used for follow-up during the treatment process. This causes children to be exposed to high doses of radiation. However, studies show that this dose can be reduced by 90% with EOS. Similar follow-up imaging is also required in kyphosis.

In scoliosis surgery; It is aimed to achieve the highest level of recovery and to leave a wide range of motion for the patient by freezing the minimum number of spine as possible. Because even the slightest change in the number of vertebrae fixed with surgery can greatly increase the patient's quality of life. The EOS device also comes into play at this point and plays a very important role in the treatment process with its high quality 3D imaging.

Also used in lower extremity surgery

EOS can also be used for planning and measuring before lower extremity surgeries. Leg defects can be shown better than conventional x-rays. The 3D modeling device can help to plan before knee and hip arthroplasty surgeries.

Modeling feature also stands out in young children. In this group of patients, the behavior of scoliosis monitored with EOS device helps in follow-up. Thanks to the models obtained; It is determined which curvature in the spine will progress and which will not. Thus, the treatment processes of children are facilitated by correct and rapid diagnosis. Correct diagnosis with the privilege of EOS device offers a healthier future for our patients in the treatment of scoliosis, which is successfully carried out in Florence Nightingale Hospitals.

What are their Advantages?

- The whole body can be viewed in 3D at once.
- The degree of spinal curvature can be determined more accurately.
- 90% less radiation dose is used than conventional x-ray devices.
