Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals Acupuncture Department

Acupuncture, is a science that treats functional diseases by stimulating the bodys autonomic nervous,  neuroendocrine , immune systems and regional blood flow by needles and / or moxa, or  with laser and electrical stimulation  when necessary.

How is Acupuncture Applied in our Department?

In acupuncture treatments, very fine-tipped needles are inserted into certain parts of the body. These needles stay about 20-30 minutes in the body. Needles are sterile and disposable.

Pain patients need a treatment of 4-6 sessions. Generally, treatment sessions are held every 2 days. During each treatment session, the patient spends an average of 1 hour  in the acupuncture polyclinic.

Our department cooperates with Heidelberg, Hamburg, Porto, Tokyo, Fukuoka Universities that specialize in acupuncture around the world.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture acts by activating the body's own regulatory and protective mechanisms, the central nervous system, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, and immunological system. Therefore, acupuncture is effective in the treatment of functional diseases. It has no place in the treatment of structural diseases.

Acupuncture needles are inserted into certain points on the body. When needles are inserted, the nerve endings are stimulated, and the stimulation reaches the spinal cord through nerve pathways, and from there the centers in the brain. As a result, various chemical substances are secreted in our body and these substances reach the diseased area through circulation.

Acupuncture regulates the immune system and protein cascade system with local and central effect. It strengthens the humoral immune system (the main defense mechanism against bacterial infections) and the Cellular immune system (delayed allergic reactions, tissue rejection, destruction of cancer cells, defense against viral, fungal, bacterials).

What do patients need to be careful about when coming to Acupuncture Treatments?

When coming to acupuncture treatments, the patient should not be too hungry or too full, and should not have taken alcohol and should not be tired. It is not recommended for patients to do heavy and tiring work after acupuncture treatment. Precious jewelery should not be worn in order to avoid any loss. It is recommended to attend acupuncture treatments with a companion.

Are there any side effects of Acupuncture Treatments?

Normally, acupuncture has no serious side effects. However, as it increases the level of endorphins in the body after the treatment, the patient experiences a mild sleepiness  and a relaxed feeling. Very rarely, some patients may experience needle pain at the injection points.

How many types of Acupuncture Treatments are there?

Body acupuncture
Microsystem acupuncture (Ear, Hand, Foot, Head)

Body acupuncture; ensures regular functioning of organs. It regulates metabolism. In acupuncture, each organ has a unique electrical channel, and the energy flow within these channels is balanced during treatment. Body acupuncture stimulates the body's ability to constantly renew itself and keep it in balance against external factors. The Qi energy circulating through 12 main and 2 extra meridians in the body is balanced with acupuncture therapy.

Since auricular acupuncture contains an acupuncture point for almost every part of the body (intestine, heart, liver, etc.), it is important that it is  used  solely or with the body   in acupuncture treatments. On the other hand, this feature of the ear helps to identify diseases and target focused treatments.
